Turbulence and capillary waves on bubbles

چکیده
We present a link between the theory of deep water waves and that bubble surface perturbations. Theory correspondence is shown analytically for small wavelengths in linear regime investigated numerically nonlinear regime. To do so, we develop second-order spatial perturbation equations Rayleigh-Plesset equation solve them numerically. Our code publicly available. Studying capillary on stable bubbles, recreate Kolmogorov-Zakharov spectrum predicted by weak turbulence theory, putting wave to use bubbles. In this investigation, it seems curvature does not affect turbulent properties. Calculated qualitatively responds low gravity experiments. The demonstrated opens new possibilities studying several phenomena, including sonoluminescence cavitation, using extensive tools developed framework.

Turbulence of capillary waves.
A numerical model for direct simulation of the surface of ideal fluid based on the expansion of the Hamiltonian of the surface up to terms of fourth order is developed. For the case of capillary wave we observe the formation of powerlike spectrum of spatial elevations close to one predicted by weakturbulent theory Ik . k219y4, which previously was not confirmed either experimentally or numerica...
متن کاملDirect numerical investigation of turbulence of capillary waves.
We consider the inertial range spectrum of capillary wave turbulence. Under the assumptions of weak turbulence, the theoretical surface elevation spectrum scales with wave number k as Iη∼k(α), where α=α0=-19/4, energy (density) flux P as P(1/2). The proportional factor C, known as the Kolmogorov constant, has a theoretical value of C=C0=9.85 (we show that this value holds only after a formulati...

Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) is used to analyze the wave-decay process in a countercurrent air/water turbulent flow. Three dimensionless numbers describe the problem: the Reynolds number Re τ (which measures the importance of inertia compared to viscosity), the Weber number We (which measures the importance of inertia compared to surface tension) and the Froude number Fr (which measures th...
متن کاملNonlocal resonances in weak turbulence of gravity-capillary waves.
We report a laboratory investigation of weak turbulence of water surface waves in the gravity-capillary crossover. By using time-space-resolved profilometry and a bicoherence analysis, we observe that the nonlinear processes involve three-wave resonant interactions. By studying the solutions of the resonance conditions, we show that the nonlinear interaction is dominantly one dimensional and in...
متن کاملThe Effect of Bubbles on Developed Turbulence
We report on measurements of energy spectra, second and higher order structure functions in bubbly turbulence. The void fraction is up to 2.9 % with an mean equivalent bubble size of 3-5 mm. We find the results of [I. Mazzitelli, D. Lohse, F. Toschi, Phys. Fluids, 15 L5 (2003)] qualitatively confirmed, i.e. a more pronounced energy enhancement on small scales than on large scales due to the pre...
